EASLEY, S.C. — A German company announced Monday that Pickens County will soon be the location of its first South Carolina operation, bringing dozens of new jobs.
ElringKlinger Group said the $40.3 million investment will create 115 new jobs.
The company will manufacture electric battery cell contacting systems at its new 226,000-square-foot facility located at 3800 Calhoun Memorial Highway in Easley.
That’s right behind the old Greenville-Pickens Motor Speedway.
“This 600 acre site, it could be all houses, but it isn’t,” said Pickens County Council Chairman Chris Bowers. “It is industry, it is business, it is jobs.”
Ray Farley, executive director for Alliance Pickens, says he thinks he know why the location was selected.
Operations are expected to be online sometime in mid-2025.
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the project. The council also awarded a $750,000 Set-Aside grant to Pickens County to assist with the costs of site preparation, building construction and road improvements, officials said.
As for the future of the speedway property, Bowers said the county is still waiting for someone to take it over and buy the racetrack.
“There’s no reason the two projects can’t coexist, if you will,” he said.
