PICKENS COUNTY – Pickens County ranked in a list of counties with populations over 65,000 with the lowest property tax.
In September, The Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan educational organization that seeks to assist taxpayers about tax policies, released a list of 788 U.S. Counties with the lowest property taxes based on property taxes and home values.
Pickens County placed 720th on the list, with an average tax of $551, said County Administrator J. Chappell Hurst.
“That is lower than Oconee, Laurens, Greenwood, Greenville, Spartanburg and all other counties in the state,” Hurst said. “This shows that this county has been very frugal over the years and watched how we’ve spent some money.”
